xxxLea Bristow
I began
writing poetry when I was 14 years old back in 1992.
Throughout my high school years I continued with my
poetry and got Bs for English until 1994 when I
moved to a new high school, this caused major issues for
me, leaving my friends behind from my previous school. I
continued with my poetry and unfortunately let my writing
slip. I would write poetry about trying to fit in to love
lost and feeling like nobody at a new school. I kept most
of this hidden from family and only a few friends knew
about my poetry writing. I once submitted one of my poems
to a teen magazine where it got published. Unfortunately
I didnt submitted any more and just kept them to
myself. I still have them tucked away in a box.
Once I was settled at my new school, English took a back
seat to my love of Art. Id even skip class to spend
more time on my Art work. I never knew I would come full
circle again only to wish Id stayed more in
English. My grammar and punctuation are not perfect but I
am learning and have taken up a few short courses to
scrub up my writing skills. My love of writing poetry
dwindled once I left school and had a serious
relationship with my boyfriend from high school. Five
years after high school we got married and now have three
lovely boys. I live in Adelaide, South Australia along
the coast and venture to the beach when its warm to
take a break and refresh my mind.
Its only been in the last few months after reading
my sister-in-laws stories and helped her create a
title for one, that the urge to write reignited. Although
I havent written poetry for some time, a story
started begging to be put to paper and so I let it flow
unplanned. Ive written seven chapters and have
paused to pick up Rob Parnells Easy Way to Write
system and all the little courses of the various genres.
I must say I was completely blown away. Ive picked
up so much information that only now Im ready to
continue with my first novel. Just recently I have joined
a writing circle online for assistance with critiquing my
work plus help with grammar and learn from them. I have
so many ideas racing to top spot in my mind that want to
be put to paper, so Ive had to make notes but one
would not rest till I completed it. I must say that Im
pleased with how it turned out and posted it on my blog.
Essence of A Mother was about my third birth experience
without drugs. Ive had many positive comments about
the story through friends and acquaintances which has
urged me to continue my current novel.
I enjoy writing and reading dark para, supernatural,
fantasy, horror and a little bit of romance. Even my two
older boys are begging me to write a story for them. So I
have a lot of immediate support. The outer rim not so
much as Ive kept it low as I dont want to
shadow my sister-in-law although we write in completely
different genres.
The journey so far has been one of establishing my
direction with goals and focus on my writing skills. Id
love to be published in the next few years. Ive
stop started many things in my life and this time
something feels different as I write. I enjoy it and I
wont let it become a chore. Writing is something Id
like to pursue as something for me, my family, for
financial reasons as Ive been a stay at home mum
for some time as my husband is away on lot of work trips.
My blog site is about what Ive learnt along the
way, offering sites I found inspiring. It is also about
my journey into writing and a little sneak peek at the
story Im currently writing.
Lea Bristow is my Pseudo name, mainly for the reason that
my married name isnt really appropriate especially
if I was to be published. Lea is an abbreviation of my
real name, so Im not out to hide who I am.
I want to thank Rob Parnell for your informative courses,
they have changed my way of thinking and how I plan a lot
more of my writing.
Id highly recommend his writing system to anyone
interested in writing.
