When I began writing in elementary school
English had to be my worst subject. At that young age I
hadn't realized how important it would be to my later
life and so the climb to enjoying literature was a long
one for me. In class, I would continuously receive C's on
my papers for providing a lack of description and overuse
of run on sentences which came about as a result of
trying to fix such a problem. I actually began to hate
the very idea of it.
In middle school though my world would turn darker
Between the peer pressure from other students and the
very simple idea of being a young teenager writing was
pushed further back from my mind and into a locked
chamber of secrets. My class grades struggled, my
portfolio was harsh, and my ability to turn something
from thought to words was sorely handicapped.
Things wouldn't get better until my last year of middle
school when the Harry Potter of Anime unlocked that
chamber. Anime, the world of Japanese Animation spilled
into my life and soon, along with art, writing began to
strongly gain a bigger place in my life. At first, I
started making stories of my own from Anime's that
existed such as Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, and Yu-Gi-Oh.
These stories, called fan-fictions then became the
essence for which my own stories and characters came
about. My writing Improved, character development went
from paper figures to entire worlds of people, and high
school came knocking at my door.
For some reason, when I opened those doors high school
was a breeze. My writing was getting compliments,
from other students and even teachers! I was helping
others write their papers, helping them create ideas. My
world was opening into a new place that I had come to
love. I wrote stories, drew pictures from them, made up
maps for worlds--my LOVE became WRITING. So, when the
time come and graduation was at my door the answer I had
been searching for all this time would be there. I would
write, and teach writing. I wanted to become an English
teacher. Someone who could open a world to other students
who want it but just need the help, who want to learn
what it feels like to put every fiber of their being into
words that leak from page to page.
And, here I am. A Student at Eastern Kentucky University,
pursuing a degree in High School English Education. My
dreams; write novels, teach, and share my world with
others.
