Writing has been a part of my life since I was 9 years old. That was when I started writing poetry. I still write poetry, though none has been published. Friends that I have shared it with have told me many times I need to have it published.

When my children were small, and liked me to read them stories I realized I did not like the motivations in those stories. I started writing stories for my children that had positive messages. They still remember the stories and they are now in their 30s.

I have written short stories for years, and I am sure they have some merit to them, but I guess I have not gained the confidence I need to send them off to a publisher.

I took a correspondence writing course from Writers Digest, and the instructor told me I really did need to send it in to be published! Though she knew what the story was going to say, the ending even shocked her. I had the character of Rebecca Marie Troutman running around in my head for years before I put her to paper. She is still a cute kid.

I think I got connected with Rob Parnell 4 or 5 years ago and have taken a number of his classes. I really enjoy them, and the writing that I do because of those classes are boosting my confidence in my writing.

I have not written any books as yet, but I have gone back to college and the writing skills have helped with the papers that I have had to write. I am currently working on my Master’s Degree in Biblical History. This is very writing intensive, so the writing I have learned from Rob is invaluable!

LUNCH TIME IMAGES

I went and sat in the square today

On my lunch hour,

I sat on the bricks and just

Watched people.

I saw a biker

Eating his lunch in the wind,

His bike all packed

And his back-pack packed with

Traveling “things”.

I watched a man with a walker

Going through the trash,

He had his “bag”

And he looked cold.

I saw a whole passle of kids

All dressed in red,

They were about 3 or 4

Could have been twins

Except for the different colors.

I heard sounds

Of clicking heels

And winter coats swishing

In the wind.

I heard foreign languages

And laughter

And arguing

And children crying.

I watched the birds

Flying above me,

And on I sat

Watching.

It was cold

The wind was blowing,

The people hurried

As if they had somewhere

To go…

PROMISE ME

Promise me

You’ll let me go

When the time comes.

Don’t hold me to this earth

To be bound by the pain

And making my loved ones grieve.

Promise me you’ll let me go

Don’t have me hang on

And linger in pain.

Know that my love for you

Transcends all time

No matter where I am.

Though I can’t touch you

Nor you me

I am there beside you.

If you need my closeness

All you need do is reach out

And my hand will be in yours.

So…Promise me

You’ll let me go

When the time comes.
