My first published work was a
poem. I've always remembered the date June 9th
1950, it was my eleventh birthday.
Now at 69, my ambition to be a writer is bearing fruit,
however, it hasn't happened overnight.
Over the years, I have taken writing courses. There was
one I studied while I was living in South Africa. It was
a Freelance Journalism Course. During the months of
study, with the encouragement of my tutor, I wrote
several articles that were accepted for publication in
various newspapers and magazines. I did receive more back
in fees than I paid for the course.
On completion of the course and its assignments, I
received a Diploma and a letter from the Principal of the
school, The Home Study College. I was given a
Distinction. This was because my grades for each
Assignment were consistently high from B+ - A+. The
highest overall marks awarded to any student in the
history of The Home Study College.
From 2002 to the present date, I've been a Community
Correspondent for our local weekly free newspaper, The
North and East Manchester Advertiser. I write about
events going on in the locality. I enjoy the kudos I
receive from both the reader and contributors of the
events.
Whilst I have until recently concentrated on non-fiction
writing, I have been writing fictional short stories
since June 2008. My fourth story 'Kaz In the Changing
Room,' is being published in an anthology early February
2009.
Xcite books are printing these stories. In order to
protect the innocent, I write under a pseudonym of
Eleanor Powell. I'm writing erotica. Me a 69-year-old

Am I ashamed of what I'm writing? Absolutely not;
especially as I'm being paid for these stories.
I have a list of 'Work in Progress.' Books and Courses
as diverse as
'Moffat's Double Entry Book-Keeping Made Simple.'
'Eva Moffat's Traditional Cooking Just Like Mum Used to
Make.'
'Moffat's Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses Made Simple.'
'Eva Moffat's My Love Hate Relationship With My Computer'
I do all this, despite being disabled. I was involved in
a car crash in 1993 breaking my neck and damaging
both my hands. According to the doctors at the time, I
had a near death experience. Therefore, since then, I
greet each new day with gratitude and I'm glad to be
alive.
Also,
I have a condition called Narcolepsy. This is a
Neurological condition that causes me to go to sleep for
a few minutes anywhere anytime. My drowsiness is at its
worst the minute I try to read or listen to something
meant to be for study purposes. My body betrays me so.
I was
once interviewed for a newspaper article. As Elizabeth
Foster the Reporter remarked, 'How Much More Could Eva
Moffat Have Done, If She Didn't Spend So Much Time
Sleeping?' There's no answer to that.
